Given the events of genocide over the last century with Hitler, Stalin, Chairman Mao, and the usual suspects, had the civilian population of those countries had the right to bear arms do you feel that these events could of been thwarted?

You are the guy in NW Ohio who got into an argument with President Obama when he campaigned here in 2008. You called yourself a “plumber,†although you never completed a training program for it. Despite being embarrassed on national TV in 2008, you decided to run for Congress in my district this year. You hardly captured a vote, in one of the most embarrassing political campaigns ever. You have to be him. After all, who else could come up with such a bizarre thought? During your campaign this summer, you produced a TV commercial in which you were seen shooting at pumpkins and watermelons with rifles, machine guns and shotguns. Meanwhile, an announcer blared that (supported by text) “If Jews were able to own guns, the holocaust would not have happened.†Right, and if pigs could fly…
OK, let’s follow your train of thought for a moment. Jews have been arguably the most benign religion in history. But let’s just say that before the Holocaust, sometime around 1936, someone gave every Jew in Europe a machine gun and several clips of ammunition. Of course, almost none of them would know how to use it. But, OK. Now move to 1939 and the invasion of Poland. Hitler ordered the SS, under Himmler, to annihilate the Jews of Europe. This was accomplished at the Wannsee Conference, when Nazis examined and approved death camps and gas chambers. The SS had Panzer tanks, armored personnel carriers, 88MM artillery, hundreds of thousands of mortars, and 2 million soldiers, all ready to snuff out the life of an untrained Jew with a machine gun that he/she doesn’t know how to use. Will win this battle? Will it be a few million Jews who have never used a gun? Or, will it be the 2 million man SS, all trained killers with tanks, artillery and superior machine guns?
Let’s try ten million starved, emaciated, untrained victims of Stalin’s Gulag. That would be against a standing Soviet Army of almost 20 million trained soldiers, equipped with fighters, bombers, destroyers, hundreds of thousands of tanks, artillery, mortars, mines, machine guns, etc. Who would you bet on, Klinger/Joe the Plumber? Would you bet on the untrained emaciated prisoners? Or would you bet on the well-trained Soviet Armed forces? My money is on the Reds.
Want more? OK. Chairman Mao has incarcerated several million innocent Chinese suspected of being less than enthusiastic about his politics. They are sequestered in horrifying prisons in which very few can survive for more than a few months. Let’s say that you gave them each a rifle and ammunition. Then put them, untrained, into battle against tens of thousands of trained battalions of Red Chinese Army soldiers, backed up by tanks, fighters, bombers, mortars, etc. Still want to bet on your untrained but-suddenly armed farmers?

You are a Jew living in Russia in 1941, just like three generations of my maternal extended family. Several battalions of SS, bolstered by tens of thousands of Einsatzgruppen (please look it up, but in the short run, these are Cossacks, criminals, thugs, the dregs of society, etc. who did the dirty work for the SS in Russia). You and your family are surrounded by at least 300 raving mad SS and Einsatzgruppen, armed to the teeth and backed up by Panzer tanks. You have that gun in your hand that we discussed at the beginning of our conversation. If you aim it at someone (much less shoot it), you and all of your family will be instantly vaporized by a hail of Nazi and Einsatzgruppen bullets. So, Klinger/Joe, do you still think that being armed would have made a rat’s ass of a difference?
Klinger/Joe, I saw your TV ad for Congress this summer. You ran against Marcy Kaptur (D. Ohio), who has more tenure in Congress than any female but one. She has done more for jobs, business, commerce, education and infrastructure in NW Ohio in one year than most Congressmen accomplish in a lifetime. Your TV commercial said exactly the same thing as you have postulated here. If Jews had guns, which were made illegal by Nazi Germany, they would not have been genocide victims. Right. Joe, most deeply religious people do not want to own, or will not use, advanced weapons. Shotguns against tanks makes little sense. And in the history of genocide, giving the victims similar weapons would have made no difference. You know this. I know this. And by far, the voters of NW Ohio know this as you lost the election by almost 80% of the vote.

Genocide is never about whether the victims had a gun. It’s always about perpetrators with vastly superior and well-trained armed forces. Genocide has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment. That just grants American citizens the right to own guns. Genocide is always about a vastly superior armed belligerent BIGOTED group attacking victims who cannot hope to defend themselves. Sadly, no, the genocides of the 20th Century likely could not have been prevented. Hitler, Stalin, Mao and the Tutsi of Rwanda were as evil as it gets. They owned massive military machines and in the case of Rwanda, tens of thousands of sword-handling thugs bent on murder, including children. Perhaps if the Allies attacked Germany when the Holocaust began (and they knew about it), Hitler might have been stymied before millions of Jews were murdered. But the Allies waited far too long, either out of fear of war, or apathy concerning Jews. Today, nuclear arsenals prevent a global war among the major nations. I fear, however, it’s the terrorist with a nuke that we must fear. One step leads to another. Clearly, humans today are far too immature and callous to own weapons of mass destruction. Only America has used them as a wartime tool. But when global fear of America dissipates, as it must, the very worst can happen. I also fear a global leader who is unhinged. Think Trump without his advisors or Putin when his own people rage against his unrelenting regime. Or the Iranian clergy, when one of them pushes the button against Israel. That’s all it takes for global thermonuclear warfare and the end of most species on the planet surface. I wish I could find reason for optimism. I cannot.
Agreed. This is a time-waster. Were it not for the fact that I am currently in between writing new books, I would not have responded. Still, neo-conservative selfish Americans should hear the truth once in a while, even if it hurts. It’s so easy for many middle and upper-class Americans to smugly ignore the plight of the poor, the disabled, veterans and minorities. The GOP platform this year perfectly explained the fact that old white men rule that party, that they could care less about women, poor people and minorities, who are second-class citizens in their world and that if people are poor, “let them eat cake.” I’m here to say that our society is far too polarized. The top 2% of wealthy families control more than 90% of American wealth. Tax rates today are lower across the board than at any time since the early 1960s. Thus, millionaires and companies use capital gains deductions and other loopholes to pay a far smaller share of taxes than middle-class Americans. Today, the middle class American pays more than 30% in taxes, while the wealthy American pays 14% or LESS, just like Romney. It’s not fair! My wife and I have been solid middle class Americans for the past 40 years. We are HAPPY TO PAY MORE IN TAXES so that poor people and the underprivileged can have need services. This is not welfare, because welfare was eliminated in the Clinton administration. Far too many white Americans love the GOP because it’s a lily white party and their heroes (Fox News talking heads) preach that they should keep all of their money, rather than help the underprivileged. Those poor people were born with a handicap. Their single parent was unable to provide the enrichment that the child deserved. The ghetto schools have poor quality teachers. Ghetto peers deride others who value education. When it’s time for college, they can’t pay for it. If you cannot offer some of your money to give a hand to the disadvantaged, they you live outside the spirit of America. That’s what I’m fighting for here.

Yes, many of us are happy to pay more in taxes to support those in need. That’s the kindred spirit of America. We help each other, especially when we can afford to do so. As long as programs like Head Start, NPR, the Peace Corps and Planned Parenthood are underfunded, as long as there are unemployed and homeless Americans, as long as the underprivileged cannot afford the cost of college, it’s up to those of us with resources to help.
America is polarized today. The gap between the richest 2% and lowest 20% has never been this wide. During the past 40 years, the poor and working classes of America have had stagnant incomes; while the wealthiest 2% have seen their incomes increase 85-fold. My wife and I are not in that top 2%. But our incomes have risen steadily over those years. We give back because we can… and because it’s the right thing to do. I guess that’s not too popular among certain “conservative” political parties today.
Romney’s sad comments about “47% of Americans sucking the life out of the rest of us†was a real wakeup call politically. In one unfortunate slip of loquacious verbiage, Romney placed poor Americans, students with college loans, elderly and disabled who receive Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security in a large bowl called leeches. Then, he said, “They don’t vote for us (Republicans) anyway.†What a selfish shame. Romney has tens of millions of dollars, yet he pays half the percentage in taxes that you and I pay; and he squirrels the rest away in foreign bank accounts. How does that “trickle-down economics†work for you? At least we now know exactly where the GOP platform stands. At least we now know for whom to vote.

While people like you have been crying about President Obama during the past four years, he saved our economy from the worst recession since the Great Depression, rescued the American auto industry, pulled our armed forces out of combat in Iraq and he is evacuating them from Afghanistan. The President enhanced America’s reputation overseas, which George W. Bush trashed with his fictitious ‘weapons of mass destruction†and he kept Republicans from destroying Medicare and Social Security with Paul Ryan’s GOP plan. Here in rustbelt Ohio, the unemployment rate when President Obama took office was 12%. Today, it’s 6.9%. Nationwide unemployment has gone down from 11% to 7%. Obama’s fiscal stimulus put our economy back on track while creating NO inflation at all. As the GOP said during the run-up to the election, “it’s all about the economy and jobs.” And President Obama accomplished it.
President Obama’s signature legacy, The Affordable Care Act, will give 30 million low income Americans the same access to health care that you and I have enjoyed. Health care should not be a privilege for the employed and the wealthy. Health care should be available for all citizens, as is the case throughout Europe. In fact, universal health care (taking insurance companies out of controlling it), will save a great deal of taxpayer money. If you don’t trust government, take a long look at Medicare and Medicaid, which operate primarily in the black. Were it not for the fact that Congress (lead by the GOP in the House) raids the Social Security income for other uses, it too would remain in the black forever.
In summary, President Obama saved our economy, rescued the auto industry, brought unemployment down from 11% to 7%, regulated financial institutions to prevent another recession, brought two foreign wars to a conclusion, restored America’s reputation with other nations, gave 30 million poor Americans equal access to health care, saved Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security from Paul Ryan’s budget axe and he’s now working with Congress to reduce the federal deficit. So what are you complaining about? Free cell phones? Is that the best you can come up with?
I think that some Americans who complain bitterly about President Obama simply cannot abide by having a black man in the White House. Right “Klinger?” Are they man enough to admit it? The current unemployment rate in Ohio is 6.9%; it’s between 7% and 7.9% nationally. You can call that “lies” all you want, Mr. “Klinger.” It’s a fact. And that’s down from over 12% three years ago, after the financial abomination that George W. Bush left the nation in. He prosecuted two foreign wars and LOWERED taxes at the same time, which has never occurred before in America. The Republican Congress & Georgie Bush deregulated federal and local financial and housing markets, allowing companies (like Romney’s Bain Capital) to rape and plunder the markets, sending American jobs to foreign countries and allowing China to procure American land.
Under President Obama, employment is going up, unemployment is going down, home foreclosures are going down and hiring is picking up almost everywhere outside of Nevada. These, Mr. “Klinger,” are FACTS. I urge you to look them up. President Obama took the Bush-debacle Iraq war soldiers home safely. He’s now doing the same in Afghanistan. The GOP shouted, “It’s about the economy and jobs,” during this year’s campaign. American voters responded with their choice of economic leader. In reality, Romney would have been a terrible economic leader, as would any millionaire who made a fortune by breaking up American companies and sending American jobs overseas. He would have been even more dangerous with foreign policy, where he has no experience beyond coordinating one Olympics. In his foreign tour last summer, he insulted three nations. It likely took several aids to dislodge his foot from his mouth on the flight back.

I really do not know what “bubble” you refer to in my context. I was raised by a physician father and homemaker mother in a very middle-class Toledo neighborhood. My dad, the first full-time psychiatrist in Toledo, allowed his patients to pay whatever they thought was fair. Many of them were so poor that they paid with baked goods. Some paid $5, because it’s all that they had at the time. My Dad, who also served (volunteered, not drafted) as a Captain the Army Medical Corps in North Africa, Italy and France during WWII, only cared about helping his patients. The only “bubble†was that I was the only Jew in my neighborhood. I learned at a very young age to defend myself. I always had clothes on my back, food to eat and a few toys (nothing compared to most of my friends). But I was as middle class as you can get growing up. So, perhaps you can explain the meaning of “the bubble.”
I think you’re angry because your tribe lost the election battle, Mr. “Klinger.†The American people expressed more confidence in President Obama than in Mr. Flip-Flop Romney. Our economy is healing. The Affordable Care Act gives all Americans equal access to medical care. It should eventually lower medical costs. If it doesn’t, I’ll still be happy to pay more in taxes so that poor Americans have the same right to health care as the rest of us. If you disagree with that, then you lack compassion and empathy. It would be selfish to think otherwise. If the economy gets worse in the next four years, come back and complain. Meanwhile, the voters spoke. President Obama won the popular vote and he won the Electoral College by a wide margin. Get over it. I did for eight years of Bush’s madness that left our economy in the worst debacle since the Great Depression. I’m sure that you can get over this too.

Divorce Agreement……written by a young American college law student
Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters:
We have stuck together since the late 1950’s for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know that we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
The following is a model separation agreement.
Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets, since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.
Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the police, the NRA and the military. We’ll take the nasty, smelly, oil industry and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel.
You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O’Donnell. You are responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.
We’ll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.
We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s and rednecks. We’ll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We’ll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.
We’ll keep “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “The National Anthem.” I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute “Imagine,” “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing,” “Kumbaya” or “We are the World.”
We’ll practice “trickle-down economics” and you can continue to give “trickle up poverty” your best shot.

While my little McMansion is larger and much more expensive than I ever anticipated owning, it’s not exactly in the range you mentioned. Back to your comment, my wife and I earned our college and graduate degrees and we have worked very hard for more than 30 years to earn what we possess. At the same time, both of us have voted for each and every tax increase for children’s services, public schools, parks & recreation, children’s science museum and every other tax increase to benefit our city and region. For as long as I have been working, I have gladly voted for issues that benefit poor people, the disabled and homeless, veterans and students. I’m most happy to share my money with the underprivileged. They need it more than I do. So, “Alberto,†YES, I can cry out for liberalism because I live it each and every day. We support our local university, public broadcasting, museums and the arts. I’m happy to say that while we’re not millionaires, we are comfortable; and that allows us to support liberal issues right here where we live. To sum up briefly:
You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states; we get stem cell research and the best beaches.
We get the Statue of Liberty; you get Opry Land. We get Harvard; you get Ole ‘ Miss.
We get 85 percent of America ‘s venture capital and entrepreneurs; you get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue; you get to make the red states pay their fair share.

“Alberto,” should I be flattered that you have devoted considerable time researching my whereabouts and bank accounts? In reality, only a small portion of your “data” is correct. Your research is largely a wasted effort for accuracy. Much of it is significantly (hopelessly) dated. Your computer research is not truthful.
As for “sharing the wealth,” my wife and I contribute significantly to regional charities and we vote for virtually every tax issue that can assist the disadvantaged, the unemployed, homeless citizens, underprivileged children and for every tax issue that benefits the most destitute in our community. We have always supported local schools, universities, museums, food banks, soup kitchens, PBS and the arts. We gladly support services that help the underprivileged, including Planned Parenthood, Goodwill, the Salvation Army and many other charities. #1. “Alberto,” if you wish to be perceived in better light, it would behoove you to learn to use proper English. In other words, when you use “your” instead of “you’re,†and “dont” instead of “don’t,” it makes you appear as an angry seven year-old. Of course, it is possible that a person with such atrocious butchering of the English language to have average intelligence. Perhaps English is not your native language? I’m trying to help you here.
#2. I have been, and I am wrong about many things. The thought of being wrong does not affirm or negate my intelligence. My intelligence is an innate factor that can be measured. In fact, the last time it was measured, my IQ was 146 (the average IQ today is around 100). That still does not make me right or wrong about any particular issue. However, I would suggest that having almost a double minor in Philosophy really opened my eyes into deductive logic. Learning about the epistemology of many philosophers has proffered various versions of logic. So, I never say that I am the only source of truth. However, I try to implement deductive logic and empirical rules of argument. BTW, your sentence, “The very thought of you being wrong negates your intelligence,†is truly mystifying. Whose thought? Instead of taking money from the State of Ohio, my division earned more than enough to make ends meet and we gave eight million dollars in profit to Ohio. In the last two Democratic administrations we have seen a sleazier,
angrier and more selfish part of America rising up more and more in
our political class. The Founders told us that ultimately our
elected politicians are a mirror of ourselves. Just like you, before
November 7, 2012, I lived in the fervent hope that the degradation
of the Clinton and Obama years might be an exception to the long
trend of American history. But two times eight years of radical
leftists in high office can’t be an accident. We can’t just blame
our sleazy media, or just the leftist political class, as corrupt

No — the balance of decency in America has changed. Every society
has normal, decent people and the other kind. The America we grew up

We have a President who won on revenge against middle class values.
That’s what he meant by telling his people to vote for revenge. And

We are now a society divided between the makers and the takers, and
the takers are on a campaign of theft and revenge.
We have a President who takes dangerous pride in his hatred for
“middleclassness” as Jeremiah Wright taught him to believe. We have
a President who culminated his campaign with a ghetto singer rapping
about hoes and bitches, about drug-ridden and broken families, as if
all those cruelties were good.
This is not normal, decent America.
It is not.
We need to face that.
Morality and values are not small things. The new tide in the
affairs of America also means that we can no longer be trusted to
defend civilized values around the world, as we have done for the
last hundred years.
It’s a sea change. Fools around the world will applaud Obama as a
savior, but wise people will see us crumbling. They know they will
be the worse for it.
Today the world is far more dangerous place than four years ago. If
you doubt that, keep an eye on the rise of barbarisms around the
world. Obama constantly facilitates barbarism, and the barbarians
understand that much better than decent people do.
History buffs will remember that we’ve had decades of sleaze before.
The Founders were followed by Jacksonian corruption. Abraham Lincoln
was followed by Reconstruction. Yet we somehow found our way back.
Come-backs can happen, but probably not soon.
So this is an elegiac moment, a moment of mourning for what has
passed. From Truman and Eisenhower to Bush 43 we have had leaders of
character.

Republicans by and large still look, act, and speak like normal,
decent people. But they have a hard time even understanding a
thoroughly sleazified America. Normal, decent people do not know how
to live in this new, barbaric society. We live in protected
communities, we drive around in SUVs, like armored cars.
The left knows exactly how to act in this Brave New World. They’ve
made it. We are now ruled by sleazy demagogues who take bribes from
foreign nations that do not wish us well. Obama is the worst example
so far. Even the Clintons, both selfish narcissists, were somewhat
better.
With the decline of American decency, the civilized world has lost
its foremost defender. America wasn’t a world power in earlier times
of corruption. We could afford to make mistakes. Today, our national
decay endangers the world. The left has purposely attacked our
self-respect, our pride in our morality and decency, and our crucial
role in the defense of civilized values. We are no longer the Leader
of the Free World, because we have lost — for now — the values
that guided us. America can no longer be trusted, as we saw so
clearly in Benghazi and the fraudulent Arab Spring.
Any nation that places any trust in our promises today is run by fools.
Our allies must arm up to protect themselves, or they must find new,
trustworthy allies.
For sixty years Europe has lived off our willingness to come to its
defense. The southern rim of Europe is now going bankrupt, and even
France looks ready to crumble. Without our leadership Europe has to
rely on itself, or on Russia, or on the spreading Muslim empires.
But Europe has shown no capacity to defend itself. Maybe they will
learn. Or maybe they will be swamped. We can no longer be trusted.

Those two administrations were anything but what you describe, which makes me wonder if you comprehend recent history, or if you get it in a box from Fox News. President Clinton entered office with a huge deficit left by GOP Presidents George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. The Reagan deficit was the largest in history. President Clinton gave America two surpluses (both terms). President Clinton stopped genocide in Bosnia without damaging anyone or anything – and without massive American casualties. At the end of his second term, America was at peace with the world, had a full, robust economy and a fiscal surplus. When Mr. Clinton left office, America was respected by the nations of the world, while crime rates were steadily down. President Carter’s administration was characterized by American respect around the world, with the exception of Iran, which occurred at the end of Mr. Carter’s term. Our economy was far from moribund (although we had periods of inflation) and crime rates were low. So, how, exactly, can you turn these truths into “sleazy, angry, selfish, etc.? This GOP administration had massive federal deficits, an increase in violent crime and political destructiveness like the nation had never seen. The Bush administration can only be compared to the Nixon administration in terms of lies, deceit, obstruction of justice and (I’ll use your word here) “sleazy.” Economically, the Bush administration can only be compared to Reagan’s two terms, because both Reagan and Bush gave America the largest federal deficits in history. Clinton gave us a surplus. Reagan and Bush gave us massive deficits. And, Mr. Man, if the nation is “angry,†it is because Bush gave millionaires huge tax breaks, all upon the backs of the middle class. Mr. Man, the Bush administration lowered tax rates for the wealthy to the lowest point in almost 50 years. American millionaires, like Mr. Romney, pay on average a tax rate of 14%. Romney gave us only one year of his recent IRS forms and he paid “14%.†When a millionaire GOP candidate refuses to release tax forms, don’t you wonder what he’s hiding? I don’t know about you, Mr. Man, but my wife and I have been paying over 30% for most of our lives is taxes. If Americans today are “angry,†Mr. Man, it’s because millionaires like Romney pay less half of the tax rate that we middle class Americans pay. Is this fair, Mr. Man? Does this not make you “angry?†Mr. Man? Hello? Yes, Mr. Man, our own Republican politicians and their hacks taught us how to be sleazy and how to waste resources and money that our progeny deserve. That, Mr. Man, is GOP “malevolence and selfishness,” courtesy of the professor of vindictiveness, Karl Rove.
Bush (“Wâ€) denied that climate change was real, even though all of his own climatologists agreed that it was real and that human production of carbon was exacerbating the problem. Bush refused to sign the Kyoto agreement and he trashed critical EPA regulations, allowing his corporate CEO buddies to produce even more atmosphere-destroying carbon. Bush deregulated EPA rulings, resulting in the Gulf oil spill. Bush also deregulated the financial industry, resulting in the housing bust and our Great Recession. Yes, Mr. Man, if Americans are “angry,†it’s because the GOP trashed industry regulations that protected our environment and our economy. Deregulation is the GOP’s middle name! Getting angry yet? Well, Americans are angry about their Republican government allowing corporations to rape and plunder, garnering massive profits at the expense of our progeny.
Today, virtually every scientist and climatologist around the word rails against the (carbon) pollution produced in INCREASING amounts, yet the GOP Romney/Ryan ticket again turned their backs on the greatest danger facing the world today. Placing their heads firmly in the sand, Republican politicians continue to whistle while the world’s climate grows ever more dangerous. Soon, even powerful coordinated action by all of the world’s governments to reduce climate change and global warming will be too late to reduce the danger. Our grandchildren will curse the Bush administration and the GOP for fiddling while the world burns in drastic climate change.
The “left” did not create this brave new world of faded morality, because the left has had no power at all since Lyndon Johnson. The two Democratic administrations (Carter and Clinton) were moderates; they were centrists not leftists. They did not move us in any direction. In fact, the Clinton second term oversaw the end of welfare in America. Nothing socialist about that. Even President Obama has remains a centrist. He only asks that millionaires pay their fair share in taxes. But Bush lowered tax rates on the wealthy to the lowest point since 1964. Today, the GOP Romney/Ryan ticket proposed changing Medicare into a voucher system that would enrich private insurance companies while increasing health care premiums on Americans. The GOP wants to dismantle Social Security as we know it and end Medicaid, which operates year after year in the black. Don’t take my word for this. Look it up for yourself.If Americans are “angry” it’s because Republicans want to take away the only economic and health care safety net for the poor and the working class. You know this to be true.
The GOP is increasingly seen as an out of touch party dominated by older white males who come off as wanting to remake the nation socially into the 1950s. Their credibility among young, diverse voters is lost on issues such as gay marriage, abortion rights, social rights and women’s (equal) rights. The GOP’s antagonism towards hot-button issues such as college loans, collective bargaining and immigration reform make them appear protective of a status quo in which young, working class and minority voters are alienated by older white politicians. Worse yet, thinly veiled Republican efforts to disenfranchise minority voters by limiting polling hours came off as punitive, pushing the GOP farther behind the eight ball of America’s future demographic profile. This election was clearly a negative message to the tea party, which has now pulled the GOP so far to the right that they are viewed by many voters as reactionary rather than conservative. Tea party favorites often shot themselves in the foot with comments about women’s reproductive rights, their indifference to any form of gun control (during a period in which automatic weapons are increasingly used to massacre innocent citizens) and their anti-Muslim rhetoric. Republicans favored ending or diminishing entitlement programs, including Medicare (into a voucher system) and Social Security. Romney’s suggestion that 47% of Americans are leeches upon the bloodstream of the American economy was seen not only as demeaning, but also was disenfranchising. VP candidate Paul Ryan has attempted for years to reduce popular entitlement programs which benefit poor and middle class citizens, while protecting the wealthiest Americans from paying their fair share of taxes. Mr. Obama asks only that Americans earning more than $250K/yr, pay a little more in taxes. Republicans falsely claim that this will damage the economy. Yet, every single recent study reveals that taxing millionaires more has no deleterious effect upon the economy at all. Republicans protect the wealthy. Democrats protect everyone else.
America’s young voters value minority rights, freedom from religious doctrine in government and liberalization of society, manifested by legalization of marijuana, immigration reform, women’s reproductive rights, equal pay for women and equal rights for minorities. As long as the GOP fights to protect wealthy Americans from paying higher taxes (tax rates today across the board today are lower than they have been since the 1960s and much lower for the highest income Americans), they will be viewed by virtually all voters as supporting millionaires on the backs of the middle class. This manifests as an America increasingly polarized, in which a handful of millionaires controls almost all of our wealth. The GOP is fighting diversity as America continues its steady march to a much more diverse society.

I was also heavily invested in sociology. There are no more or fewer gays in America today than there were 100 or 200 years ago, just more who have come out. Sexual orientation is not learned or acquired, but ingrained before birth. Thus we see males in female bodies and females in male bodies. Our society has finally gone past condemning such individuals. There but for the sake of a chromosome could be you. Same-sex marriage is legal in many states today and there will be many more such successes in the future. Gays are not good, bad, right or wrong. They’re just people, like you and me.
“No God?” Barry, a little research will correct that boner. Almost all research today reveals that the vast majority of Americans believe in a deity. I believe it is something like 70% to 80%. What’s different today is that people are dropping out of organized religion (think church) like people fleeing from… well, sexual predators in authority positions within the church. Americans still believe. They just don’t have to go somewhere on Sunday morning to prove it.

Well, “Barry,” I was in college during the war in Viet Nam. But, I changed my exemption from a college deferral to 1-A in the year 1971 (the height of the war). My draft lottery number was not reached that year, which means that the government then changed my deferral to 1-H. Not long after, the war ended. It was America’s first defeat. I did not resist the draft or flee to Canada. But I have experienced many fine camping, fishing and tourist vacations in Canada, since I have lived not far from the border my entire life. I suppose that you might find Canada too liberal for your draconian taste. And, yes, like a majority of Americans my age and younger, I have inhaled the leaf and bud of the cannabis plant. It did not deprive me of fathering two wonderful, beautiful and very successful children, nor did it prevent me from having a terrific career as an administrator at The University of Toledo. Instead of writing “923 executive orders” as you claim, he has in reality produced only 138, which pales in comparison to George W. Bush (291) or President Clinton (364). The Republican president Theodore Roosevelt issued 1,081 executive orders, while his cousin, President Franklin Roosevelt issued a mammoth 3,522 orders. Now, compare that to Obama’s 138.
I quote Snopes as follows: “The attribution of fourteen executive orders (10990 to 11921) is completely false. He did not issue a single one of those orders.” The first twelve orders that you listed, Mr. Lackey, “date to the administration of President John F. Kennedy.” One dates “to Lyndon Johnson” and one “to Gerald Ford.” According to Snopes, “the entirety of this claim is erroneous.”

Frank, is it fair that the American middle class pays twice as much as the wealthy (by tax percentage)? For 44 years, the Polish authorities and with them most of the world’s mass media had been claiming that some four million inmates had perished there, but in 1989 they suddenly changed their minds and reduced this figure drastically. As a consequence, the memorial plates on display in the camp Auschwitz-Birkenau were removed in 1990, which had propagated the four million figure in many languages.
Following this dispute, an investigative commission was formed to come up with a more acceptable number of victims. Hi Frank. Thanks for your comment. You are right on target. The amended death list for Auschwitz-Birkenau is 1.5 million, the vast majority being Jewish. However the overall Holocaust death numbers for Jews remains at about 6 million. This is a figure established repeatedly from massive research.
No event in human history has been as thoroughly researched as has been the Holocaust. Literally tens of thousands of thesis and dissertations have poured over millions of Nazi facts. In recent years, captured German war documents have been released by the United States National Archives. More than 1 million records are housed there. As a result, we know that the 6 million figure for murdered Jews is accurate. But don’t take my word for it. Visit the site yourself. Frank, if we know one thing from history it’s that our information and insights become more complete and detailed over time. But for the Holocaust, we know that about 6 million Jews were murdered and that about 1.5 million of them were at Auschwitz.

The study of history is ruled by empirical research standards that are used by virtually every PhD in every nation and university. With the Holocaust, we arrive at facts not just by interviewing people and using anecdotal information, persuasive as it may seem. We arrive at conclusions based upon an analysis of empirical DATA. By far, the most conclusive and impressive data from the Holocaust is in captured German war documents. There (view it for yourself) we find Nazi leaders and German officers providing their own facts. We see that 1.5 million Jews were murdered at Auschwitz, a certain number at Sobibor, a certain number at Treblinka… and so on. We even have records showing how many Jews were transported by which train in which nation, from which camp to which destination, including how many Jews died along the way.
For Holocaust researchers, the most compelling proof of the crime comes from the perpetrators own facts (Nazi data). Add to this the testimony of Nazi leaders and German officers at Nuremberg. Add to this the testimony of camp employees, prisoners and victims, including Sonderkommando. Add to this the testimony of leaders of the Einsatzgruppen, providing data about how many Jews were murdered in Eastern Europe and at places such as Babi Yar, where at least 13,000 Jews were murdered in a few days in late September of 1941.
Stating that someone many years ago suggested that four million Jews were murdered at Auschwitz, but now historians have downgraded it to 1.5 million serves little purpose. If Nazis had not murdered any other Jew in all of the Holocaust, Auschwitz alone would forever be remembered as the most massive genocide against a religion in history. So what is gained by pushing the downgraded number at one place of genocide?

Jews have been arguably the most benign religion in history. They prefer careers in education, medicine, law and government, rather than the military. They are not prone to terrorist or military attacks. Rather than offend gentiles, Jews use their skills and talents to make societies better. Because Jews have been such a peaceful group, they have also been viewed as a natural scapegoat.
In response to some of the comments that were made, I noticed that it said on the old monument at Auschwitz that ‘4 million people’ perished there, which was later revised down to 1.5 million people. However, it never read 4 million Jews. These estimates were made immediately after the war, based on the capacities of the ovens and gas chambers, and hence were not accurate.
Although the Holocaust remains the most researched genocide in history, it is impossible to determine exactly how many victims were murdered by Nazi German, in part because they coerced other groups to do some of the murdering. For example, the SS paid groups of criminals, thugs and anti-Semites to murder hundreds of thousands of Jews in what is today The Ukraine (including members of my family). These groups of murders were called The Einsatzgruppen. Some Nazi labor and death camp records were destroyed before falling into the hands of the Allies. Some records that were taken by liberating Soviet troops were either destroyed or never again saw the light of day. However, most of the Nazi genocide records were captured by the Allies and now reside in The United States National Archive. You can actually look them up with a simple Internet search. Other records from death camps are just now being released by Germany. Therefore, we will soon have a much better knowledge of the accuracy of Nazi genocide victims.
These are but a few of the many solid sources of information (vetted, verified and empirically proven). In addition, we have the testimony of various Nazi and SS leaders from post-war tribunals, including Nuremburg. To give you some idea of the accuracy of this data, the tribunal defendants had an out. They could have claimed that they did not commit genocide against Jews, Roma, the intellectually challenged, Soviet prisoners, etc. They could have vowed innocence. Instead, virtually all of them admitted to murdering millions of Jews and others, but claimed that they were just following orders. Therefore, we have the admission of guilt (genocide) by the criminals themselves in a lawful court.
The figure of four million murdered Jews remains accurate for the entire Holocaust, verified by literally thousands of thesis and dissertation research projects and the research of many governments. This figure comes not from the survivors, but from captured Nazi records (which you can view at The US National Archives) and in courtroom testimony by the camp commanders, SS officers and soldiers, camp workers, surviving Sonderkommando, the railroad travel records into Nazi death camps and even by Polish farmers who were given many metric tons of human ash and were told to bury it and dump it into nearby rivers and streams. You can discard the anecdotal evidence and still understand the truth. The captured Nazi records alone, plus their admission of guilt in courtroom trials verifies the accuracy of four million Jewish deaths, most by gas chambers. Their bodies were cremated and the remains buried.
Millions more gentiles were murdered because they did not fit into Hitler’s plan for “the future of the Aryan race.†No genocide in history compares to it, especially against members of one religion. At least two million Jews were murdered in the name of Christ during the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Reformation and the English Expulsion. Since the Holocaust, we’ve witnessed genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and now in Darfur. Christians are being murdered en mass by Muslims in Africa. Humans are no more mature now than they were generations ago. Am I a “Hebrew?” That term is rarely used. But if you’re comfortable with it, so am I. Why do you disparage education in the ’60s? Were you alive then? My undergraduate education was in the 70’s. My post-graduate education was in the 90’s, while I was already an administrator at The University of Toledo. Perhaps you can elaborate on your disparaging remark about the 60’s. I was, and I remain, a liberal. In the 60’s, I marched for equal rights (civil rights), against the war and for tolerance. When I grew up in the 50’s, there were still proprietors who refused to serve a black person. There were separate public bathrooms and drinking fountains for “colored.†I saw signs saying, “No dogs or Jews allowed.†I protested the war in Viet Nam, which cost 50,000 American lives and accomplished nothing. We defended a corrupt regime. We were told that if we lost the war, every other SE Asian country would fall to communism. That lie was almost as horrific as George W. The Soviets made a mistake because there were millions killed throughout the Nazi camps, not just at Auschwitz. Perhaps they figured that since there was little left of Sobibor, Treblinka, and the other camps, that they should just make Auschwitz birkenau the symbol for all the death camps in Poland.
Thanks for your very insightful comment. The USSR controlled most of Eastern Europe, including Poland, after the Holocaust. Many Nazi death camp records in Poland, including Auschwitz, became Soviet property. The records of Sobibor, Chelmno, Belzec, Majdanek and Treblinka fell under USSR control. These Russian conquerors controlled most of the critical Nazi documents related to genocide victims. Did they share that information accurately with the West?
Perhaps it matters less which Nazi death camp became a “symbol” of atrocities; and it matters more which crucial documents may have been destroyed or withheld by the USSR. The records of Soviet atrocities against conquered Europeans AFTER the war have been similarly buried under a mountain of cover-ups. Think Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, etc. This pall of silence fell similarly upon Nazi death camps and Einsatzgruppen records. Not every Jew, Roma, Russian, Allied prisoner, etc. was murdered in Auschwitz. One could say that it is a small miracle that global universities and governments (especially the US National Archives, The US Holocaust Museum and Yad Vashem) have been able to access and utilize empirically most of those “lost” records.
Your postulation about Russia and Auschwitz might have some teeth. It may have been convenient for the USSR to blame Auschwitz for the bulk of Nazi genocide efforts against Jews and others. In reality, more than half of all innocent Jewish men, women and children murdered by Nazi Germany were not in Poland or anywhere near Auschwitz. Nor were they moved into Poland. The Einsatzgruppen alone murdered at least one million Jews, many of whom were my family in Russia (the Ukraine). At least one million more were in France and Belgium. Another million were in Scandinavia, Greece, Spain and Portugal. Auschwitz accounted for about 1.5 million. Add to that Treblinka, Sobibor, Chelmno, Belzec, Majdanek, etc. and you have the globally-recognized six million.
We know this… The USSR, under Stalin, murdered more people than in Holocaust. Of course, this was not the industrial-strength extermination like Nazi death camps. Nor was it all aimed at Jews or any other religion. Stalin sent millions of innocent Russians into the Gulag; Siberia and beyond. In 20th-century Russia, under Stalin, you were productive or you were sent to a place from which you never returned. A government that willingly sent millions of its own citizens into oblivion certainly could not be counted upon to provide the rest of the global community with facts about Jews murdered under the Nazi regime.
Thankfully, the US National Archives has been very successful in obtaining a massive percentage of Nazi documents regarding their genocide against Jews, Roma, Russians, political prisoners, etc. We can access this information via the Internet. Thus the bulk of Nazi atrocities are empirically proven and the details (from Nazi records) are accessible for virtually all of us via a common Internet search. No matter how the USSR might have twisted Holocaust data, the figure of six million murdered Jews remains explained with proven facts, primarily delineated through the data from captured German war documents.
I dont doubt that the stories told during the last 70 years of the people still alive that went thru this to some degree, but is there any possible chance of some tall tales or sensationalized reports or even blatent lies going on?

Tyler, historians do not reply upon “stories” for accuracy or historical veracity. Historians only use empirically-vetted facts, preferably physical evidence. So, while we have literally thousands of anecdotal verifications that all point to the fact that millions of innocent Jews were systematically exterminated by Nazi Germany, we in higher education prefer to use empirical evidence for proof. In this endeavor, we find abundant and robust evidence for the murder of millions of innocent Jews. For example, records from the Wannsee Conference prove that Nazi leaders desired to exterminate all of Europe’s Jews, mostly with gas chambers and cremation. This physical evidence exists in the US National Archives, at Yad Vashem, at the US Holocaust Museum and many other locations. Feel free to look it up yourself, on the Internet. We also have physical evidence of the original death camp architectural records, revealing gas chambers and crematoria for massive-scale exterminations. We have Nazi death camp records, proving by name and number each of the millions of murdered Jews. We have the physical evidence of crumbling death camp buildings, replete with gas chambers and crematoria. We have the testimony of Nazi leaders, SS officers, guards and camp workers – all agreeing that millions of Jews were murdered. We even have the testimony of Polish farmers, asserting that they received tens of thousands of metric tons of human ask, to be spread upon fields of crops or to be placed into rivers and streams, especially the Vistula. Finally, we have the testimony of the victims themselves.
Tyler, no one is forcing you to read or research Holocaust records. The Jewish people do not desire your attention, your respect or any comment. The Holocaust remains the most widespread and egregious genocide in history against one religious group. It also remains the most researched event in history. Literally thousands of thesis and dissertation projects were focused upon the Holocaust.
But Tyler, here is the bottom line. Here is why we continue to discuss the Holocaust and all genocides in history. In the words of philosopher and writer George Santayana, “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.†In other words, if we stop discussing it, then other genocides are much more likely to happen in the future.
In conclusion, Tyler, forget about all of the stories of Holocaust survivors, despite the fact that they seem to be highly accurate. Even if we discounted all of their comments, or suggested that they were “sensationalized,†we would still have the vast collection of physical data and the testimony of the perpetrators, admitting that they murdered millions of innocent Jews. Tyler, when the criminal admits guilt and when all of the physical crime data agrees with that admission of guilt, we have an airtight case.
We have focused on all of the robust research using empirically valid means. Those agree and coincide with the survivor’s testimony and prove that about six million innocent Jewish men, women and children (along with millions of other innocent people) were exterminated in favor of a “pure Aryan Europe.†By keeping these facts alive, we hope to prevent another genocide in the future.

By the way, Tyler, Jews do not technically, “have their own country.” Israel is a democracy with a secular government. It is not a theocracy. Unlike “Anyanville,” where only Aryans are welcome, Israel grants citizenship to people of all colors, ethnic origins and religions. Israel’s government, called the Knesset, consists of various parties, including a party that represents Islamic citizens. So you see, Israel welcomes all who lish to live there, regardless of who they are, where they came from or their religious choice.

Tyler, what place are you referring where “people would go when they are unwanted?” If you speak of Jews living in Europe (since this blog is about the Holocaust, I can only infer that intent), many, if not most of those Jews had ancestors who lived in Europe longer than the gentiles who turned them in to the Gestapo and who murdered them in Nazi death camps.
Jews immigrated to Europe after their ancestral homeland (Israel) was conquered by the Greeks and Romans; long before the Crusades. And those Jews were welcomed in most of the places where they lived. Europe had a small population and there was plenty of room for everyone. During the Dark Ages and the Renaissance, Jews accepted jobs that Christians found distasteful, such as money-lending. In many lands, they became leaders of commerce, education, medicine and industry. It was only after the Reformation that Jews became persona-non-grata, leading to the genocides of the Spanish Inquisition, the English Expulsion and the Holocaust. And since they were condemned only for not being Christian, it would be impossible in contemporary knowledge to say that they deserved their fate.
Moreover, Tyler, almost every land in the world contains people who were unwanted, including America (genocide of Native Americans), Africa, where genocide continues today and Asia (think China, Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Viet Nam, etc.). Virtually everyone in central and South America represents an unwanted group. After Columbus, Cortez and Magellan, the indigenous populations were wiped out by war, famine and pestilence brought by the invaders. Scotland has been imposed-upon by England for many centuries. I could go on. There are but a handful of vastly isolated locations on our planet where the indigenous population remains as it was two thousand years ago. Unwanted people live everywhere else.
Thus, Tyler, one cannot (without significant chutzpah) point towards Jews living in Europe without also pointing to virtually every place on the planet where non-indigenous people arrived. But what makes Jews different, Tyler, is their benign nature. Can you name one land that Jews have conquered? History reveals that Jews have never attempted to conquer any land to which they have immigrated. Ironically, Jews have made the lives of those around them better, with every facet of science, technology, education and commerce – even in places where many disliked them.
If your intention was to suggest that Jews were unwanted in Israel, then you are completely mistaken. When Jews arrived after the exodus from Egypt, only Canaanites lived there. Canaanites welcomed those Jews and they lived side by side in peace for many years. However, Canaanites have no surviving descendents. Therefore, Jews are the only original inhabitants of Israel, their ancestral homeland who remain there. As for “unwanted people,†Israel has been conquered by Assyria, Babylonia, Greece, Rome, Christians and Muslims. Jews lived in Israel at least 1,000 years before the creation of Islam and at least 1,500 years before Palestinians arrived. Thus it’s safe to say that Israel is their ancestral homeland, they never left (although they were conquered repeatedly) and therefore they cannot be “unwanted†in their own homeland. In 1948, the UN agreed with this and declared once more that Israel is the contemporary Jewish homeland.
No people should be forced to depart from their homeland. And if forced out, they cannot ethically be declared unwanted elsewhere without cause. Jews have never been responsible for genocide – anywhere. The only cause anyone has declared about Jews being unwanted is simply that they are Jews. Would it make sense to force Christians to move out of North and South America and Africa? Are they too “unwanted?†They brought disease and death. Jews only brought determination to succeed, commitment to their faith and a deep, persistent love for education. How does that become “unwanted?†What did Jews do to deserve that fate?
1. Jews did not “kick out Palestinians.” In 1948, when the UN announced that Israel would be the contemporary Jewish State (on the same land that is the ancestral Jewish homeland), the Arab world rebelled with anger. The leaders of Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan told Palestinians living in the Holy Land to leave, in preparation for the annihilation of Israel. They told the Palestinians that they would be able to return to their homes, as soon as Israel was defeated. In this, they meant that it would take only a few weeks to drive every Jew out of the land. To the great surprise of everyone, Israel pushed back the attacking Arabs and saved their homeland from destruction. Tyler, in all of modern history, no nation that was attacked without provocation and defended itself successfully has been forced to give land back to the attacking nations. You should also know that the first act of the Israeli government was to welcome everyone currently living there (all religions and races) as free and equal citizens. The nascent Israeli government begged Palestinians to stay. In fact, those that did (and their children and grandchildren) today live as citizens of Israel with every benefit that Jews have. They even have their own party in Knesset. And they are exempt from mandatory military service. Israel was and is the Jewish homeland. They cannot be “unwanted†and they never cast out Palestinians.
2. The topic of this blog, Tyler, has nothing to do with Israel. This blog is about the Holocaust. Israel did not exist then. Therefore, your attempt to use Israel as a bargaining piece in your argument about Jews being “unwanted†is non-sequitur.
3. If you want to discuss Israel, that’s fine with me. You can start your own blog about it. Or, you can visit someone else’s blog about the Middle East and post comments about Israel there. This blog is about the Holocaust, which ended before Israel was created.
Racism has not abated in recent times unfortunately. For example, when black African Jews returned to Israel in 1969 under the Right of Return Act, the government ruled that they were not real Jews and therefore did not qualify for citizenship or any legal status. The black Hebrews were also denied state benefits and work permits. It wasn’t until 2003 that black Hebrews were granted permanent residency, but not the automatic citizenship granted to all other races returning on the exact same provision. If it wasn’t for a group of Americans who shamed the Israeli government into granting black African Jews some legal status, they would probably never have received it. To this day black Jews are still not accepted by the Jewish community in Israel. Racial slurs, insults, and discrimination in housing rentals are commonplace. This treatment has reached such an unbearable level that Ethiopan Jews have taken to the streets to protest.
No nation, race or ethnic group is above intolerance. But consider this. Whenever there is an earthquake, tsunami, volcano, tornado or other natural disaster, Israel is a first responder – even when the disaster is in a Islamic nation. Israel is color blind to those in need of help. Whether Haiti, Japan, Indonesia, you name it – Israel has been there first to help. No Arab nation has offered similar help to any other nation in any part of the world.
When Israel was born in 1948, the first act of Knesset was to beg Arabs (Muslims) to remain as free and equal citizens. Those who did, and their progeny, today remain free and equal citizens of Israel. They can own property, run for public office and they even have their own party in Knesset. Compare this to Jews in Muslim nations. They cannot own property, vote, run for public office, have a government job or be represented in any government group. Jews in Arab nations are persona non grata. They are the lowest of human life in that nation. Moreover, in Muslim nations Jews are vilified as “pigs, vermin” and “the lowest form of life.” Youngsters in Muslim nations are encouraged to kill Jews.
No nation is above making a mistake. Even Israel makes mistakes. If they have denied legal rights of Jews from Africa, then they are wrong. But which nation has not done this? America murdered millions of Native American men, women and children in one of the greatest genocides on record. Before that American in the South owned and persecuted African slaves. Many Western nations allowed slavery and genocide. Christian nations in the Crusades murdered millions of Jews and Muslims. In the Spanish Inquisition and The English Expulsion, at least two million Jewish men, women and children were murdered only because they were Jews. Many such nations had policies in prior years that allowed citizens to own Jewish slaves.
So pardon me if Israel made a mistake in granting rights of Africans who claimed to be Jews. Maybe they were. Maybe they simply desired the wonderful lifestyle accorded to Israelis. Either way, even if a mistake was made, it pales in comparison to the countless nations and countless times that it was legally and socially acceptable to murder innocent Jews.

Israel committed genocide against no one. The Palestinians who fled in 1948 did so because they were told to do so by the gopvernments of Egypt, Syria, Jordan (“Transjordan”) and Lebanon.
Israel or ”jews” most certainly did indirectly commit genocide when they sold slaves and had slave ships that brought blacks to America. Being people of slavery themselves turned and profited from the slave trade. Small or large scale genocide or slavetrading is immaterial and sometimes Charles you act as though the ”jews” as so innocent and the picked on ”nationality” of people.
My reply to your post about Israeli “racism” was that no nation is perfect (read it again). Every Israeli citizen shares equal rights and Israel is a first responder to global disasters, even in Muslim nations. I also explained how Jews are mistreated in Muslim nations, denied the rights that Muslims have in Israel. Does that make Israel perfect? Are they always “innocent?” Human Rights International ranks Israel among the most consistent nations for equal rights and civil rights. Yes, they occasionally make a mistake. But among all of the nations of the world, Israel stands out for being an open and free democracy, for providing all citizens with prevalent and equal human and civil rights and for being a tolerant society. But Israel is not our topic. Israel did not exist during the Holocaust. It is irrelevant to our discussion.
Your comment suggesting that Jews were responsible for slavery is both extraneous and illogical. Jews represented less than 1% of the population in Antebellum America. They are less than 2% today. Just to reference your attempt at logic, it’s like saying that Mormons were responsible for widespread genocide against Native Americas. A handful of incidents does not constitute a trend. Mike, any historian will agree that Christians have been far more responsible for slavery and genocide than any other religion. At least 600,000 Jews and perhaps a million Muslims were murdered in the name of Jesus in the Crusades. About one million Jews, including children were murdered by Christians in the Spanish Inquisition. About 200,000 Jews were murdered in the English Expulsion. Tens of thousands more Jews were murdered in the Reformation. Then we have the Holocaust, in which six million innocent Jewish men, women and children were murdered by predominantly Christian Nazi Germany. These are facts about widespread racism, persecution, slavery and genocide. A handful of Antebellum Jewish slave owners will not reverse these facts. Jews in the course of history have been victims.

Thanks for your efforts. Do you know that Heinrich Himmler admitted the Holocaust openly in speeches to the Military Staff in 1943? The transcripts are on Youtube and the internet as well. I use that to ‘prove’ to skeptics what we know to be true, that the Holocaust happened.

I’ve read and heard several Himmler speeches that validate your assertion. To the world community, Nazis were careful to avoid using words like “extermination, annihilation, murder,” etc. In reality, they systematically exterminated six million Jews and countless others, deemed “not sufficiently Aryan.”
Yet, several times Nazi leaders slipped in public and admitted that their policy was to murder all Jews in Europe and beyond. Such was the case with Himmler speeches, when he presented the Nazi plan to destroy the Jews of Europe. These speeches were recorded and preserved. Anyone can access these records. They prove that Nazi leadership planned and executed the annihilation of Jewish men, women and children, wherever they could be found.
The records of the Wannsee Conference reveal that Nazi leaders planned the extermination of all Jews with concentration and death camps, as well as with the use of Zyklon B and other assembly-line methods of mass genocide. SS testimony and captured German war records prove that the annihilation of Europe’s Jews became an active policy, especially with camps in Eastern Europe and Germany. Death camp workers testified that the genocide occurred (see Auschwitz, Dachau, Sobibor, Majdanek, Gross-Rosen, Mauthausen and others). That’s in addition to the testimony of camp survivors, workers, guards and nearby communities where tons of human ash fell.
These records exist at the US National Archives, the US Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem and many other museums. They are available for all to see. So, the next time someone tells you that there were no gas chambers, death camps or six million murdered Jews, just refer them to the above-mentioned museums and historical agencies.

But, when you purposefully discount the vast, vast majority of professional historians on Holocaust fatcs, then you are certainly ignoring veracity. Eiinstein left Europe after the Nuremberg Laws made Jews second-class citizens. If you really understood Einstein (and I’m not too certain, based upon your comment), then you would know that he feared for his life and the lives of his family and friends, all because they were Jewish. You can read this for yourself in one of the best Einstein biographies, “Einstein: A Life,: by Denis Brian; 1996, John Wiley & Sons.

Professor Arthur Butz rightly labeled it “The Hoax of the Twentieth Century” in his book of that title.

Jack, your “Professor Butz” is the “butt end” of jokes among the community of professional historians. Please note that Butz is a PROFESSOR OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, NOT HISTORY. He should be one of the last individuals to claim as your prophet of Holocaust denial, along with other prominent Holocaust deniers who are NOT professional historians. You might as well proffer You Tube videos as evidence, as do most revisionists.
What strikes me as odd is that Holocaust deniers must know deep in their heart that millions of Jews were systematically exterminated. Thousands of thesis and dissertation research projects confirmed this. Wannsee Conference records reveal that the SS, through Heydrich, Himmler and Eichmann were tasked with the extermination of Europe’s Jews, most through death camps using Zyklon B. At the Nuremberg trials, Nazi leaders admitted to murdering millions of Jews. The same Holocaust facts were corroborated through captured German war records (see US National Archives, the US Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem and many other viable sources). Add to this anecdotal evidence, provided by camp guards and workers, Holocaust survivors, Polish famers who received thousands of metric tons of human ash for fertilizer.
During various tribunals after the war, hundreds of Einsatzgruppen participants testified that they were tasked by the SS to murder as many European Jews as possible. Members of my own family were likely murdered at Babi Yar, along with at least 80,000 other Jewish men, women and children. Parents were forced to watch as their naked children were shot; their bodies dumped into trenches. With the SS watching, hundreds of thousands of Jews were taken from their homes, their possessions looted, they were force-marched to trenches and then shot and buried. Many of them were buried alive with wounds that were not mortal. All of this is available for your perusal, not on You Tube, but at the US National Archives and many notable academic institutions of higher education (see Emory University).
Jack, you may claim “Butz†until hell freezes over. His comments are not accepted by professional historians. Do you ever wonder why virtually every public school in the free world teaches the same facts about the Holocaust? Could it be because the proof is so incredibly overwhelming? The only real question is why someone would try to deny these facts. The answer is that there are a few possibilities. They hate Jews and cannot tolerate that Jews have obtained some measure of sympathy because of the Nazi genocide. Anti-Semites distort the truth in a way that promotes antagonism against the object of their hatred (Jews). Many deniers likely find it necessary to deny the culpability of their ancestors and heroes (Germans). In a paranoid way, they think that teaching the truth about the Holocaust somehow disparages contemporary Germans. More propaganda crap. Upon real historical examination you will find NO JEWS were made into soap. NO PERSONS were gassed at Dachau. Quite a few books on the holocaust are outright lies. There was a swimming pool at Auschwitz where INMATES used to swim. The Camps had, mail service, musical orchestras., camp money and more things to keep them alive then wanting them dead. Their clothes and bedding were gassed or hot steamed and even zapped using microwaves so that they could live, not die in the camps. I don’t know where you obtained your interesting, albeit inaccurate collection of Holocaust information. Your comments about Auschwitz (“a swimming pool where inmates used to swim”) are incredulous, and lacking in any serious reference.
I have interviewed Holocaust survivors, including Auschwitz victims (calling them an “inmate” is far too pleasant a description). I am a published author and Holocaust researcher, with literally thousands of hours of research. I’ve been interviewed by newspapers, magazines and on distinguished Internet sites. Victims at Auschwitz did not lounge about or swim in a pool. Nor did the SS use “microwaves to steam bedding.” In point of fact, the victims had no “bedding.” Zyklon B was used at Auschwitz, Dachau, Sobibor and many other Nazi death camps. It kills humans much faster than insects, because insects have no lungs to process it quickly into the bloodstream. One camp had mail service for a year (Theresienstadt). There was also an orchestra there. The SS used this as a ruse to fool the Red Cross into believing that Nazi Jews were well taken care of. Auschwitz also had an orchestra. They played classical music to calm incoming victims as they were moved from railroad cars to the gas chambers of Birkenau. Auschwitz victims had brutal and vicious medical experiments performed upon them, including surgery without anesthesia. They had to live on less than 400 calories per day. When they weren’t burning the bodies of gassed Jews, they were slave labor for the Nazi military and German industrialists. They were not “lounging in swimming pools.”
